Terms of Use

Effective Date: January 1, 2025
Last Updated: July 12, 2026

1. Use of This Application

Tide Tracker is provided for personal, non-commercial use. By using this application, you agree to use it responsibly and in accordance with these terms.

2. Intellectual Property

This application, including its design, features and code, is the property of Bay Design Associates. By using this application, you agree not to copy, reproduce, reverse engineer, or create derivative works based on it. If you're interested in licensing or partnership opportunities, please contact us.

3. Data Source and Accuracy

All tide and water level data displayed in this application is sourced from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Tides and Currents API. This data is provided as-is and for informational purposes only.

4. No Warranty

While we strive to present accurate information, we make no warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the data displayed. Tide predictions and water level readings may be subject to errors, delays, or inaccuracies.

5. Verification Required

IMPORTANT: Users should always verify tide and water level information directly with NOAA's official sources before making any decisions that depend on this data. For critical applications, navigational purposes, or safety-related decisions, please consult official NOAA tide tables and charts available at tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov.

6. Limitation of Liability

Bay Design Associates and the developers of this application are not responsible for any errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in the data, or for any decisions made or actions taken based on the information provided. Use of this application is at your own risk.

7. Not for Navigation

This application is not intended for navigational purposes. Do not use this application for marine navigation, commercial fishing, or any activity where safety depends on precise tide or water level information.

8. API Availability

This application relies on third-party APIs (NOAA and proxy services). We are not responsible for API downtime, rate limiting, or changes to these services that may affect the availability or functionality of this application.

9. Privacy and Cookies

Tide Tracker does not directly collect nor store your personal information. There are no user accounts, and we do not maintain a database of visitors on our servers. The app stores preferences and cached tide data on your device so it can remember your station, favorites, and offline data. We do not sell personal information.

As described below, limited usage information may be processed by third-party services we use (such as analytics and maps). Those providers handle data under their own privacy policies.

Information stored on your device

  • localStorage and IndexedDB — selected station, favorites, tide cache, and similar app settings.
  • First-party cookie: tt_station_path — remembers your last tide station so returning visits to the home page can open that station quickly (about one year, functional only; not used for advertising).
  • Service worker cache — when installed as a web app, static files may be cached for faster loading and updates.

Analytics

On tidetracker.io, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used (for example, page views, station selections, and feature use). Google may set its own cookies (such as _ga) and receive usage data according to Google's Privacy Policy.

Other third-party services

  • NOAA — tide and water-level data (see Section 3).
  • Mapbox — map display and place search on the home page. Map requests go to Mapbox; their services are subject to Mapbox's Privacy Policy.
  • Approximate location — if you use location features, the app may use browser geolocation or a server lookup (via our hosting provider or a geo API) to suggest nearby stations. We do not store a precise location profile on our servers.

You can clear site data, cookies, or cached files in your browser settings at any time. Clearing data may reset your station preference and cached tides. Sharing links to social networks (for example Facebook) open that provider's site; we do not embed social tracking pixels.

10. Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the application constitutes acceptance of any changes.

For questions or concerns about these terms, please contact Bay Design Associates through our website at baydesignassociates.com.
